Fastener industry challenges

Most people have a misconception of what a fully fledged fastener supplier actually does. For example it is largely based on imported products, which opens the door to a variation of real issues . As a result most people never take these into consideration, and the challenges include:

  • International specifications used to order and procure the correct fasteners which includes material specifications, tensile strengths, material types, rust protective coatings, dimensions, drives and more.
  • Minimum order quantities making a small mistake on the specification, a very expensive time consuming mistake, which may render a container load of fasteners useless if not used in the local market in that specification.
  • We finance stock, if you dont have stock or access to the correct stock in the correct volumes and at the correct value, you dont have a customer.
  • Fasteners are seen as an unemotional purchase, massive discounts for instance wont increase sales volumes immediately as the product is bought when needed.
  • Local manufacturing is limited to a few ranges which makes local procurement very challenging, local steel supply and pricing is very unstable, and lead times for manufacturing is nearly as long as importing a better quality item at a more competitive price.
  • Fasteners do keep the world together, and will be used for a very long time still, but the SA market will have to embrace newer technology over time as more efficient options are and will become available, but the barrier to entry is that most of fasteners are imported, takes long to get to SA and if not used by the local manufacturers, the fasteners will not sell.

The value we offer you in our planning and solutions.
